본 연구는 1930년대부터 1940년대까지의 한국소설 29편을 대상으로 실시된 연구에 뒤이어 1950년대부터 1970년대까지의 한국소설 38편을 대상으로 작품 속에 등장하는 장애인을 해독함으로써 바람직한 장애인관 확립에 기여하고자 했던 한 선행연구의 후속연구로 수행되었다. 본 연구에서는 1980년부터 2007년까지의 한국소설에 등장하고 있는 장애인을 해독하고 그 결과를 이상의 두 선행연구의 결과와 비교하고자 하였다. 14편의 소설을 분석대상으로 하여 1) 소설에 등장하는 장애유형에는 어떤 것들이 있으며 그 원인은 무엇인가를 알아보았으며, 2) 장애가 인물들의 삶에 어떻게 관여하고 있으며 다른 인물과의 관계에서는 어떻게 작용하고 있는가를 소설 속에 나타나 있는 직업, 교육, 사랑과 결혼, 사회활동 등의 생활상을 통해 살펴보았고, 3)소설 속에 등장하는 비장애인은 장애인을 어떤 시각으로 바라보고 있는가를 고찰하였으며, 4)두 선행연구와의 비교를 통하여 변화된 장애인관을 파악하고자 하였다. 연구결과와 논의는 위의 네 가지 영역별로 제시되었으며 마지막에 향후 관련연구를 위한 제언이 제시되었다.
This study was a follow-up study of a previous study that had examined the individuals with disabilities appeared in 38 Korean novels from the 1950s to the 1970s in order to know the views on individuals with disabilities in those days, which was also a follow-up study of a previous study that had examined the individuals with disabilities appeared in 29 Korean novels from the 1930s to the 1940s. In this present study, individuals with disabilities appeared in 14 Korean novels from 1980 to 2007 were examined and the results were compared with those of the two previous studies. Specifically, this study was conducted focusing on the following four areas: 1) types and causes of the disabilities that the characters had; 2) jobs, education, love and marriage, and social life for the characters; 3) views that individuals without disabilities had on the characters; and 4) differences in above three areas among the two previous studies and present study. The results and discussion were presented in order of the above four areas and some suggestions for future research were presented at the end.
