After the development of first period new town, there has been a numerous researches handling housing-job location problem and spatial organization of newly developed new towns. However, compared with macro studies concerning new towns, micro studies like household behavior for residential preference are few, so this study focus on understanding household preference structure and residential movement who lives in new town. This study have two objectives. The first is to find out household preference for new town resident and the second is to find out residential selection characteristics of new town resident. Most of household experienced upward change of residential quality due to migration toward new town. Cluster analysis shows that new town resident can be divided into three groups. The first is housing-oriented and the second is service-oriented and the third is invest-oriented groups. Among the three gropus, housing-oriented group shows the lowest residential satisfaction of new town. Survey results suggest that future new town development need to change demand-oriented development process.
