This paper explores the syntactic and semantic properties of the Korean serial verb constructions (SVC) in which two or more verbs occur as a series without any specific coordination or subordination markings. It shows that an adequate description of the Korean SVCs needs to sub-classify them into several in accordance with their own constructional constraints. In particular, the paper proposes the first verb in the SVC is an adjunct with the modifier feature inherited from the head-adjunct structure, whereas the second, final verb V2 is the morpho-syntactic and aspectual head. In addition, the paper sketches how the formal properties of the SVCs, including the similarities and differences between the SVCs and other similar V-V complex constructions, can follow from the inheritance type hierarchy with the notion of constructions.
