Measuring and Benchmarking the Productivity of Korean 3PL Providers with Multi-level DEA

본 연구는 우리나라 3자 물류기업 중 비교적 규모가 큰 인증 종합 물류기업의 2007년도 재무제표(대차대조표, 손익계산서)을 기반으로 투입요소와 산출요소를 정의한 후 DEA기법을 이용해서 상대적 생산성을 측정했으며 이를 통해 비효율적인 기업에 대해서는 벤치마킹 방향을 제시했다. 이들 기업을 수익성, 시장성, 전반적 효율성으로 나누어 3단계로 효율성을 분석했다. 각각의 수익효율성 분석에는 투입요소와 종업원 수, 영업비용, 고정자산, 부채, 주식지분 총액을 산출요소로는 매출액과 순이익으로 삼았다. 또 시장효율성 분석 시에는 수익효율성 분석의 산출요소로 정했다. 마지막으로 전반적 효율성 측정에는 종업원 수, 영업비용, 고정자산, 부채, 주식지분 총액을 투입요소로, 기업가치, 투자회수율, 주당이익을 산출요소로 각각 바꾸어 효율성을 측정했다. 수익 효율성과 시장 효율성을 기반으로 기업을 별, 개, 소 그리고 수면자 군으로 분류하여 효율성을 향상시킬 수 있는 방안을 제시하였다.

This study measured relative efficiencies of 3PL providers with financial statements and did a benchmarking analysis. It also suggested a combination of traditional DEA and three-level DEA technique to check efficiencies precisely. It used such factors including the number of employees, operating expenses, fixed assets, liabilities and capitals as inputs while those including net profits and earning as outputs in the first level profitability model. The study also considered such factors as sales and net profits as inputs with those including corporate values, returns on investment(ROI) and earning per share(EPS) as outputs in the second level marketability model. Finally, this study used the input factors in the first level as inputs, and the output factors in the second level as outputs in the overall performance efficiency model. After analyzing technical and scale efficiencies of third party logistics companies in each level and using linkage of two levels, it put them one by one in one of four categories, called Star, Dog, Cow and Sleeper. And it found out what are the financial weak points of Korean logistics providers who do not belong to Star and what they should do to move into the realm of Star.
