There are about 400 pieces of sijo, a Korean traditional poetic form, published in Daehan-Maeil Sinbo representing the Korean enlightenment period. They were mainly published during the shot term period. from November 1908 to August 1910(for approximately one and a half year). Among them, 94 pieces of sijo are turned out to be transformed from the traditional form of sijo. Many scholars made limited attempts to explore the pieces of this sort from the perspective of adaptation or parody. From such perspectives, however, it is difficult to comprehensively address all the pieces of work since many different aspects from the traditional form of sijo are observed in the work. This paper explores the relationship between the text and the urtext from the perspective of text-transformation. The conclusion of this paper is as follows : 1. There exists some work reproducing the traditional form of sijo, which is the result of the similarity of the context. Limited changes in vocabulary are observed, which is closely related to text derivation, rather than text transformation. 2. In some work, text transformation is made in the light of words and phrases. The transformed words art key words or core words to support the theme of the work, Vocabulary transformation helps to ensure status quo or enlightenment. 3. In some work, text transformation is made in some lines. Most pieces of the work show this tendency. Conventional theme of the traditional sijo, such as sorrowful feelings of agedness, love for the king, militarism, restful feelings, etc., is transformed into the voice of worry about the country and love for the country through the text transformation.
