A study on the relationship between the parenting stress of employed mothers and the daily hassles and problem behaviors of children

The purpose of this study was to examine the influences of the parenting stress of employed mothers on the daily hassles and problem behaviors of children. The subjects were 154 employed mothers and their 5-years old children enrolled in day-care centers which are located in Seoul and Incheon cities, and Gyeonggi-do provinces. The data were analyzed with F-test, t-test, and Pearson's correlation. Results were as follows: First, the number of children in family made significant differences in the parenting stress of employed mothers and the problem behaviors of children. second, there were significant positive correlations between the parenting stress of employed mothers and the daily hassles of children. Third, there were significant positive correlations between the parenting stress of employed mothers and the problem behaviors of children. Fourth, 'facing critical or aggressive situations' out of the sub-factors of the daily hassles of children showed the positive correlation with anxiety, aggressiveness, and inattention out of the sub-factors of the problem behaviors of children. When children faces critical or aggressive situations, they feel the strongest stress.
