이 논문은 성리학에서 제시된 誠ㆍ敬의 공부 방법을 통하여 성리학적 수양의 의미를 확인하고, 이러한 수양 공부의 철학적 근거를 고찰한다. 정주 성리학에서는 성ㆍ경 공부를 중심으로 심신의 수양 문제에 접근하는데, 마음의 변화뿐만 아니라 육체의 변화까지 유도하고 있다는 점이 특징으로 발견된다. 본 연구는 성ㆍ경 개념의 연원에 대해 유가 경전을 중심으로 검토하고, 성ㆍ경 공부를 통해 형성된 성리학자들-주돈이, 정호, 정이, 주희-의 수양이론은 어떻게 계통화 되고 있으며, 실제로 성리학자들이 즐겨 사용하였던 수양방법의 내용을 확인할 것이다. 이것은 성리학자들이 천인합일의 군자적 이상을 지향하면서, 현실적으로 추구하였던 실천적 방법론을 분석하는 것이기도 하다.
This dissertation will try to ascertain the meaning of confucianism's moral cultivation through the method of study in neo-confucianism and the philosophical ground of cultivation study with the point of view of mind-body value theory. And I also want to deal with the possibility that the moral cultivation theory in confucianism which aims to hold the awakened condition of inner mind in everyday life can be applied to modern society. The neo-confucianism approaches the cultivation of mind and body in the center of the study about Song-Kyong. It's Trait is the fact that it not only causes the change of mind but also the change of body. I want to show how the confucianists' theory of cultivation formed by the study of Song-Kyong can be systematized and to investigate the contents of the method of cultivation that confucianists would like to use. In addition to this, this dissertation aims to analyse the practical method of moral cultivation pursuing the ideal of the sovereign sage.
