A Research on Risk Perception of People Engaged in Marine Business

In this study, PAMS method was used to evaluate the dimensionality of risk perception. The first dimension derived from the 2-dimensional MDS was Involuntary versus Controllable and the second dimension was Dread versus Not Fatal. Also, on examination of the implications of risk perceptions on perceived public and private responsibilities in risk management, we found the followings. Catastrophic, certain-to-fatal, dreadful, and uncontrollable risks were perceived as more deserving public risk management, while, controllable risks, such as, known to science, known to those exposed and not catastrophic were perceived as more private risk management deserving.
