학습장애 아동들의 대인관계 기술 부족에 관한 기존 연구 동향과 쟁점 : 학습장애아를 위한 상담활동에 주는 시사점

Trends and Issues of Research on Social Skill Problems of Students with LD

본 연구에서는 학습장애아들의 대인관계 기술 향상을 위해 이제까지 제공되었던 각종 교육 훈련 프로그램과 상담활동의 효과를 보고한 각종 연구들을 개관하였다. 학습장애아들은 다른 동료 아동들보다 심각한 수준의 대인관계 기술상의 결함을 보인다. 이들은 동료들로부터 사회적 인정 정도가 낮을 뿐만 아니라 대인관계 이해도도 낮다. 또한 낮은 자아개념, 누적된 학습 실패감, 주의 산만 등 여러 가지 심리적 문제를 안고 있다. 학습장애아들이 왜 적절한 대인관계 형성에 어려움을 겪는지는 분명하지 않다. 학습장애아들의 대인관계 향상을 위해 제공되었던 많은 교육 훈련 프로그램들은 대체로 단위 기술을 훈련을 통해 학습시키려는 단위 요소 능력 모델에 근거하고 있다. 기존 연구들을 종합해보면, 적어도 특정 대인관계 기술을 강도 높은 훈련을 통해 학습시킬 수 있는 것으로 보인다. 하지만 훈련 효과의 일반화에 관한 뚜렷한 증거는 없다. 또한 전반적으로 훈련 효과정도가 낮을 뿐만 아니라, 훈련 효과를 보고한 많은 연구들이 방법론적으로 혹은 이론적으로 여러 가지 문제점을 보이고 있다. 학습장애아들은 대인관계 기술 향상을 위해 상담 서비스를 제공하는 것은 법적으로 요청되는 바이기도 할뿐만 아니라, 이론적으로도 학습장애아들의 특수성을 탄력적으로 고려할 수 있다는 점에서 바람직하다. 선행 상담 활동의 빈도와 그 효과는 아직 미미한 감이 없지 않지만, 선행 연구 결과를 고려하고 학교 현장을 고려한 상담 모형을 구축할 경우, 학습장애아들의 대인관계 기술 향상을 위한 상담활동의 역할은 증대할 것이다.

The purpose of this study was to rethink the roles of counseling services having been provided for the purpose of enhancing social skills of students identified with learning disabilities (LD). Characteristics and findings of previous research in social skill training for the same population were reviewed and presented. More than two-thirds of students with LD have deficits in social skills or social adaptation. Previous research efforts show that some social skills could be taught to these students through intensive training. However, we do not have enough evidence about generalization effects of such training efforts. Not only the effects of such training were unimpressive, but also many of previous research showed methodological deficits such as technically inadequate assessment tools, ambiguous concepts, and lack of internal or external validity. The law(PL 94-142) requires counseling service as a part of related services for students identified with LD. Even though research findings on the effects of counseling services in enhancing social skills of students identified with LD were mixed, providing counseling services based on innovative counseling models that reflected real classroom contexts, research findings, and individual needs of students with LD would help these students enhance social skills and build appropriate social relationship.
