The purpose of this study was to analyze prospective science teachers` hypothesis-testing methods generated on the potato juice task. Subjects were 49 prospective elementary school teachers and 42 prospective secondary school teachers. The potato juice task was developed and administered to the subjects. After being presented with the phenomenon of the task, the subjects were asked to generate questions and hypotheses and then to write hypothesis-testing methods on a blank sheet. The subjects generated 153 hypothesis-testing methods. The hypothesis-testing methods were analyzed by inductive approach. The results of this study showed that the hypothesis-testing methods were classified by 3 criterions; testing target, testing structure, and elaborateness. This study also discussed the implications of these findings for teaching and learning in science education.
