According to the increase of income and development of medical technology, Korea also entered into aging society due to the extension of the average of life span. Many aged persons are taken to hospitals with the purpose of long term treatment and recuperation. When elders use meal service in hospitals for an extended time, the purposes of this study were to compare and analyze the performance and importance between general meal and therapeutic meal and to analyze the influence factors on overall satisfaction. The objects of this study were the aged patients in three geriatrics hospitals in Daegu. The number of general meal users was 125 (57.6%), and the number of therapeutic meal users was 92 (42.4%). General meal and therapeutic meal users showed higher importance level rather than performance level in the quality of meal service. Food and price of general meal and price of therapeutic meal were recognized importantly, while the performance level was low. As the results of comparison between general meal and therapeutic meal, the performance of therapeutic meal had higher points than one of general meal. The overall satisfaction score of the general meal and therapeutic meal was 2.99 points and 3.63 point. The factor influenced on the overall satisfaction was food. Therefore hospitals should raise the satisfaction with food through preference survey of patients based on the results of this study. In many case some patients could not eat therapeutic meal because of price burden in spite of disease so governmental and hospital system should be prepared to reduce the price burden.
