Image of Lace Fabrics Expressed in Contemporary Fashion

The purpose of this study was to investigate the changing pattern of lace fabrics expressed in modern fashion. Historical background of laces were reviewed through the published articles from mass media. Also, usages of laces expressed by designer's collections were analyzed in terms of image of expressive materials in modern fashions. The laces were initiated by Italian handmade lace in the period from the 13th to the 15th centuries. And the lace fabrics was being produced by automatic machine after the invention of lace machine in 18th century. Patterns of laces were classified into handmade laces such as crochet, brueghel, macrame, needlepoint and bobbin lace and machine laces such as embroidery, chemical, raschel, leavers laces and so on. Laces fabrics in modern fashion were expressed for romantic, elegance, modern, exotic, and sport images. This study implies that divers images of laces in modern fashion can be represented by combination of design and fabrics.
