Jukcheon-Jo, Chae-soo's diarial Travel Sketch & His Consciousness of 'Ching'

This research is aimed at introducing three sorts of diarial travel sketches Jukcheon-Jo, Cha-soo left and second, looking into his consciousness of 'Ching' revealed in his travel sketches in 'Ching.' Jukcheon-Jo, Chae-soo lived in the 17th and 18th century and left three sorts of travel sketches in 'Ching', such as a daily-record-format 'Travel sketches in 'Ching' in the Year of Imja[the 49th year of the sexagenary cycle], 'Record of Chinese verses exchanged with other literary persons during a 'Ching' journey', in 1732, and 'Record on his 'Ching' journey' written in the format of Chinese poetry in 1738. The existence of ''Travel sketches in 'Ching' in the Year of Imja[the 49th year of the sexagenary cycle' became known to the world thanks to his descendants' donations but the remaining two sorts of 'Travel Sketches in Ching' was newly discover materials, so this research ascertain historical evidence of each material through this research paper and introduced its record format and contents. Jo, Chae-soo's “Travel Sketches in Ching” includes a variety of contents, such as a lot of hardships in the process of journey in 'Ching', beautiful scenery he witnessed on his itinerary, and what he saw and heard at the actual place. Amongst all the most conspicuous was his critical perspective of Ching's society at that time. This research paper, noting this point, examined Jo, Chae-soo's critical consciousness of Ching's customs. Jo, Chae-soo was envious of Ching's immense territory and advanced civilization, but he belittled Ching as a country ignorant of manners. The main reason lay in the Ching's customs in which people even including the descendants of a noble family shamelessly searched for financial gains in the midst of luxury, secularized prevalence of Buddhism and booming business. This researcher hopes that these materials on new 'Travel Sketches in Ching' which this paper introduced, will be serving to the literature on 'Travel Sketches of 'Ching Journey' and other related fields; in addition, I am looking forward to the succeeding research as for the real assessment of the value of these 'Travel Sketch in Ching' as academic data.
