Identity is the answer of ‘Who am I.’ It is important to define oneself as what kind of being one is. It makes many things different like the attitude and direction of life by self definition. Especially for poets or writers it is very important because identity affects work immensely. That the poets or the writers' identity makes them different with material, atmosphere, speaker, theme or subject. In this paper, I studied that Park, Yong-rae's developmental identity, negative identity, sex role identity affected to choose ‘native material’, ‘crying material’, and ‘small and weak material.’ First, developmental identity appears when one accepts the given role positively and self-rule making. Park said the poet is ‘the jewel of the earth ’ and as the poet like this jewel, he thought his role was to find ‘Korean characteristic sentiment’ and form by poem. He tried to find Korean characteristic sentimental material. He chose very carefully some words in his poem to form Korean characteristic sentiment. Second, negative identity is made when one defines oneself negatively. We can get so many examples for the negative self -definition through his essay. He described himself as some weak and negative expression. The negative identity like this often causes Bulimia nervosa and anorexia nervosa, for Park, this causes crying image in his poem. We can see crying image through all his poems. Last, the sexual identity is self-definition by tacitly social sexual request of the private person. Park couldn't make livelihood for his family as a patriarch for the rest of his life. People around him didn't see him positively. He always shrank for that and this self-shrinking affected Park to concentrate on small and weak material. We can see this through his poems. Self-compassion that Park couldn't perform the role of a patriarch was transferred to small, weak, and avoided things. To look into the identity of a poet is the work to investigate how the poet think about world, others and himself. Park was aware of himself not only negatively but also as a poet and he tried to form the Korean sentiment by a language. We can highly value on his effort to find the native materials and form the Korean sentiment as a poem.
