영화 <왕의 남자>의 서사구조와 전략 연구

A study on a movie entitled <The King and the Clown> narrative structure and strategies

본고는 작품성과 상업성 모두에서 성공했다고 판단되는 영화 <왕의 남자>에 대한 컨텍스트와 텍스트 분석을 시도한다. 작품 외적 상황 또한 영화적 성공의 중요한 요인이라는 인식 아래 흥행의 외부조건으로 탈근대적 상황과 팩션의 대두, 동성애적 코드의 대중화를 들었다. 구체적 텍스트 분석에서는 매체적 특질과 밀착한 서사구조와 전략을 논하였는데, 크게 장르적 특성의 활용과, 장르적 특성의 창조적 변형(미적 자질)으로 나뉘어진다. 분석 결과 도출된 세목은 목차에서 드러나는 바와 같다. 연구 결과 <왕의 남자>는 시대적 상황에 안전하고 확실하게 진입할 수 있는 적절한 코드의 사용이 돋보였으며, 보편성과 이에 대한 적절한 변용이 조화를 이룸으로써 대중예술로서의 매체적 특질을 효과적으로 활용한 것으로 판단된다. 이러한 ‘서사구조와 전략’에 관한 연구가 콘텐츠 생산에 의미 있는 지침이 되기를 희망한다.

This study is to analyze context and text of a movie entitled “The King and the Clown”, which is considered a success in terms of both artistic and commercial value. Post-modernistic context, emergence of faction, and popularization of homosexual cord were said to be external conditions for its success, given that external context is one of the important factors of a movie’s success. Specifically, text analysis consisted largely of use and creative transformation (artistic features) of genre characteristics. The findings of this study are as follows; The study revealed that “The King and the Clown” was unique in using appropriate cord ensuring the entry into the context of the times in a safe and secure manner and made use of characteristics of the media as popular art effectively, by making universality and its proper acculturation harmonized. It is expected that this study on ‘narrative structure and strategies’ will be meaningful guidelines for contents production.
