Citizenship Education for Value Realization of the Democracy : focused on Rationality and Morality

본 연구는 민주주의의 가치실현을 위한 시민성 교육에 관한 형식과 내용을 합리성과 도덕성에 초점을 두고 연구하였다. 논의의 관점은 공동체적 시민의식과 민주시민의 자질형성에 초점을 두고 시민성 교육의 정향 및 이념, 주체와 대상 그리고 교육적 목표이다. 연구의 결과, 시민성 교육은 공동체적 시민의식과 민주시민의 자질형성에 밀접한 관계를 갖으며 영향을 미치고 있다. 먼저, 시민성을 보는 형식적 관점은 의사결정의 합리성을 중심으로 선택의 옳고 그름의 판단을 강조하여 왔다. 다음, 내용으로 보는 관점은 시민의식의 도덕성을 강조하며 덕목과 규범의 활동양식에 초점을 두고 있다. 의사결정의 합리성은 민주적 절차와 문제해결의 능력을 함양하는데 있고, 시민의식의 도덕성은 인간의 존엄성을 내면화하는 권리와 의무를 수행하고 있다. 결국 시민성 함양은 시민교육에 합리성이 기초한 형식적 관점의 시민교육이 중심이 되고, 민주시민의 자질향상을 위한 도덕성은 시민교육의 표준방안을 확립하는 실천교육이다. 결론적으로 민주주의의 가치실현을 위한 시민성 교육은 사회적 문제해결을 위한 합리적 의사결정의 능력과 도덕적 가치를 실현하기 위한 인간의 존엄성을 내면화하는데 있다. 결국, 시민성 교육은 의사결정의 합리성과 존엄성 확립의 도덕성이 민주주의의 가치실현을 위한 필수적 요소임을 알 수 있었다.

This paper studied the formality and substance of the citizenship education to realize the value of democracy in terms of the focus on rationality and morality. Focusing on a discussion is to study the orientation and ideas, the subject and object and educational goal that are concerned about the citizen's conscious of the community and nature's cultivation of democratic citizens. In the study results, citizenship education was related to and affected by the citizens' conscious of the community and nature's cultivation of democratic citizens. Citizens' conscious of the community initially had little effect on the rationality of decision making. Nature's cultivation of democratic citizens had little effect on the morality of citizenship education. The rationality of decision making builds a cultivation democratic process and the ability of the problem solving and the morality of citizenship education is to accomplish the right and duty in which is internalizing a dignity of human. As a result, citizens' cultivation of community includes the citizens' education to the rationality, which is based to focusing on the formality, and the morality of nature of democratic citizens is practicing education which is establishing the method of standards. In conclusion, citizenship education for value realization of the democracy is the ability of rational decision making in which is solving social problems, and is internalization which is realizing a human dignity for the value of morality. Citizenship education is recognized as a foundational element to realize the democratic values of rationality and morality.
