지역축제 방문객 수 추정에 관한 탐색적 연구

An Exploratory Study on Estimating the Attendance of An Open-Gate Local Festival

그 동안 우리나라에서는 지역축제에 대한 다양한 연구가 진행되어 왔지만, 유독 축제의 성과와 경쟁력을 평가함에 있어 핵심적이 요소인 지역축제 방문객의 수를 과학적으로 추정하는 방법에 대한 연구는 제대로 이루어지지 않았다. 본 연구는 이러한 문제의식에서 출발하였으며, 1990년대 초반부터 미국을 중심으로 하는 서구에서 진행된 입장권을 판매하지 않는 지역축제 방문객 수의 추정 방법에 대한 연구를 비판적으로 검토함으로써 우리나라에 적용 가능한 지역축제방문객 수 추정 방법을 탐색해 보고자 하였다.

Over the last 10 year, recreation and tourism researchers in Korea have investigated different aspects of local festival such as motivations and satisfaction of festival participants, segmentation of festival market, economic impact of local festival and so forth. However, to date, almost no study before have explored the method of estimating the attendance of an open-gate local festival as a core dimension of festival performance. The purpose of this study was primarily to introduce several methodological technique that has bee developed in the U.S for estimating the number of visitors to a local festival. They are: 1) tag & recapture 2) parade count, 3) aerial photography and the combination of sampling entrance count and survey. Several points were made from the perspective of application of the method to Korean situation and future research.
