This article aims to illuminate the roles that the United States played in Korea's human resource development during the 1950s. For that purpose, it investigates how the United States helped Korea nurture experts in science and technology, professional military officers, and competent educators. U.S. assistances on human capital development came in large amounts and in various forms such as sending commissions, providing overseas training and education, and expanding research facilities. These program helped produce high quality manpower, thereby laying a crucial foundation for Korea's rapid economic growth during the 1960s.
