The purpose of this study is a corpus-based analysis of the lexical characteristics of the College Scholastic Ability Test (CSAT) conducted through reading and listening tests administered over the last eight years. The study focuses on the following elements: tokens, types, TTR (Type/Token Ratio), high frequency words, and collocational pairings. A corpus is built from each test, then analyzed using the NLPTools software program, resulting in several observations. First, although the TTRs of each CSAT test are similar, the tokens and types are somewhat different. Second, while the top high frequency words of the CSAT correspond with the twelve textbooks in the 7th Curriculum, CSAT tokens, types, and TTRs do not. Moreover, an analysis of the high frequency delexicalized words (such as have, take, make, and do) reveals that students cannot fully use collocational pairs effectively because of the lack of reflection and explanation in a textbook. The study concludes with some suggestions to help students better comprehend lexical chunks, specifically the need for the collocational approach based on a deeper understanding of the Curriculum’s lexicon.
