<李花實傳>의 특징과 의의

Features and significance of Leehwasil Jeon(李花實傳)

<李花實傳>은 국립중앙도서관에 소장되어 있는 『要覽』에 실려 있는 한문소설이다. 『요람』에는 이두를 사용한 글이 여러 편 실려 있으므로 이두를 많이 쓰는 서리층 인물이 작성한 것으로 추정된다. <이화실전>은 <지하국대적퇴치> 설화를 근간으로 하여 소설로 부연한 작품이다. 고위직에서 물러난 인물이 늦도록 자식이 없어서 부처님께 기원하여 아이를 낳게 된다는 장면은 군담소설 계열의 모습을 보여주고 있으며, 그렇게 해서 태어난 주인공이 뛰어난 미인과 결혼을 하게 되는 대목까지는 재자가인소설 계열의 모습을 보여준다. 그러나 이후에는 납치당한 아내가 남편을 배반하는 상황으로 전개되어 이전 고소설과는 다른 양상을 띤다. 한편 시비는 충절을 지킴으로써 윤리를 배반한 안주인보다 우위에 서고, 이는 안주인의 뺨을 때리는 자극적인 장면으로 표현되었다. 이렇듯 <이화실전>은 설화를 바탕으로 하여 고소설의 기법을 계승하고 변화시킴으로써 신분제 사회의 변화를 단적으로 보여주는 작품이 되었다.

Leehwasil Jeon(李花實傳) is the hanmun-novel work which is found in Yoram(要覽). Yoram is preserved in the National Central Library. In Yoram we can find some works written in Idu(吏讀) which was often used by seories(胥吏). Therefore it is considered that Yoram is written by one of the seories. Leehwasil Jeon is based on the tale called ‘conquering a great enemy in the underground area’(地下國大賊退治說話). An old retired high-ranking official who is childless prays to Buddha for a son and he gets a child. Its scene is related on gundam(軍談) type. This story is also related to ‘wit and beauty’ type until the passage in which the exemplary hero gets married to the reigning beauty. But in the latter of the story it is different from old novels. His abducted wife betrays him and her maid serves with loyalty to him. The maid gains an advantage over his wife in ethics. It shows her priority by describing that the maid flaps her mistress on the face. Leehwasil Jeon based on the tale follows the aspects of former novels. On the other hand it reflects the change of social status.
