'Whajeonnori and Deulchahoi' is the most popular event in which almost all tea associations participate in recent years. It has become the new type of modern festival. Most of 'Whajeonnori and Deulchahoi' has been done by Daraewon itself or with the other various events of the local government. Mokpo National University (MNU), however, held 'Nam-do Whajeonnori and Deulchahoi' inside the campus. It was an event that would be able to give the high value to the young generation who rarely had a chance of contacting our culture. Thus, we are very proud of this event, because we can contribute the traditional culture succession. It is also a meaningful event, since this event creates, reconstructs and finally hands down the traditional culture. In MNU, a liberal art class, "the East and the West's Tea Culture," assigned students to experience the 4th event in 2005 and submit reports. Our college tried to find the possibility and effective ways of the traditional culture succession through these reports, especially for the young generation. Recently, one of the new customs becomes the social problem. Young people exchange gifts to express their loves. 'Nam-do Whajeonnori and Deulchahoi' by MNU was different from this new custom which may produce side effects. This event gives the good opportunity that community members recharge the labor power and feel the spirit of unity, so that it can be the invaluable event. Through the students' reports, we can understand that 'Nam-do Whajeonnori and Deulchahoi' contributes in the traditional culture succession. We can also seek the rational succession methods. The students want to harmonize the contents of traditional festival and modern elements instead of receiving the features of old festival itself. It means that the succession of the culture mixing with newly created modern culture is inevitable. Modern transformation is necessary, but we should remain the purpose and the inherent meaning of the traditional culture. For this purpose, when holding the tea culture event, we had better consider that the teenagers can partially participate in programming and take the responsibility for the event. I miss 'Nam-do Whajeonnori and Deulchahoi', which started in 2002 and ended up in 2005. It had influenced heavily on the young generation who are responsible for our culture. Considering the effect on the traditional culture succession, I wish 'Nam-do Whajeonnori and Deulchahoi' can be held again and these kinds of events can be activated more.
