"Dayeonhwa"(茶筵花) means the flower for tea feast or ceremony which has been used for a court banquet Buddhist ceremony or scholar's tea times etc. in Korea. Our ancesters used to have a time to train their soul and body in the space of tea drinking together with flower such as flowerpot ect. With the above atmosphere, they used to cultivate virtur and morality. It is the "Dayeonhwa" that represents the harmony of beauty and morality and the aesthetic sence of scholars. This paper only focuses on the tea and flower etiquette of the four etiquettes in "Dado". "Dado"(the way of tea) is generally considered a tea drinking rite which is used to conduct social intercource and aimed at moulding a person's temperament. It emphasizes the spirit of " harmony, respect, passivity, and silence" and is generally conducted according to certain rules and procedures. The purpose of this paper tries to find the traces of the culture of "Dayeonhwa" which have been represented the center of tea and flower and uphold the great tradition to the future. It also harmonizes the relations between tea and flower which are originally an inseparably related to each other. It is, however, very difficult to research this theme because of having not preceding study or references. This paper discusses the historical survey of "Dayeonhwa" which devides into 5 chapters. The introduction to this study (chapter 1) and followed the survey of "Dayeonhwa"(with a natural flower) from the period of "Three Kingdoms", Koryo dynasty to Chosun dynasty(chapter 2). The contents of this chapter consist in almost kinds of "Dayeonhwa" used for a court banquet, Buddhist ceremony and Confucius scholars ect. The third chapter is also the historical study of "Dayeonhwa"(with an artificial flower). The fourth chapter is the places for tea ceremony, kinds of flowers, flowerpot, ways of flower arrangements and four season's features of tea ceremony. Through the above study, we have convinced that the culture of "Dayeonhwa" has been one of the our traditional culture. We are trying to succeed and develop the "Dayeonhwa Culture" and have to come into bloom it as our creative tea culture in the midst of world tea cultures.
