The Analysis on Consonant Cluster Simplification in CV Phonology

The main purpose of this paper is to analyze the phenomenon of korean consonant cluster simplification in CV phonology. First, we explain the origin and concepts of CV, phonology investigation the theories of Non-linear phonology proposed by Kahn(1976) and Selkirk(1982). We also discuss several major principes that govern representations in CV phonology. Next, presenting the Korean consonant system, we show recent proposals concerning Korean syllable structure such as CVC, CCVC and CVCCi. finally, based on the CVCCi syllble structure, we examine how the phenomenon of Korean consonant cluster simplification can be analyzed in CV phonology.
