Types and Distribution of Female Address Terms in Jeonnam Dialect: Focusing on Suffix

본 연구는 전남 방언에 나타나는 여성호칭어의 유형을 ‘-떡, -네, -실’과 같은 접미사를 이용한 전남 방언 여성호칭어에 대한 지리적 분화와 사회 문화적 요인에 대하여 살펴보았다. 그 결과를 간략하게 정리하면 다음과 같다. 첫째로 ‘-댁~ -땍~ -떡’형과 ‘-네’형은 일반적인 여성 호칭어이지만 ‘-실’형은 사회적 신분 의식이 강한 집성촌에서만 사용되는 매우 제한적인 여성호칭어라는 것이다. 둘째로 서남해 도서 지역에서는 집성촌이고 비집성촌을 불문하고 ‘-댁~ -땍~ -떡’형의 ‘종지명호칭’이나 ‘-실’형의 여성 호칭어의 사용이 자연스럽지 못하고 ‘-네’형, 특이 ‘자명+-네’ 형식의 ‘종자명호칭’을 선호한다는 것이다. 셋째로 ‘-실’형의 여성 호칭어는 그 분포도 매우 제한적일 뿐만 아니라 생산성이 매우 낮아 사라져 가는 여성 호칭어로 판단된다. 근래에 시집 간 여성을 이런 방식으로 호칭하는 사례는 매우 드문 것으로 보인다. 넷째로 오늘날 젊은 층에세 ‘-댁~ -땍~ -떡’형의 호칭이 더 이상 전통적인 의미를 갖지 못하고, ‘교장선생님댁’에서처럼 오직 집을 가리키는 말로 변질되고 있다는 점에서 이 또한 여성 호칭어로서의 기능이 소멸되어 가고 있다고 판단한다. 끝이로 ‘-네’형 여성 호칭어는 오늘날에도 여전히 여성을 부르는 말로 빈번히 사용됨으로써 높은 생산성을 갖고 있는 것으로 판단된다. 물론 과거에는 ‘-네’형의 사용에 대하여 사회 문화적 배경이 다른 지역별로 그 인식에 차이가 있었지만, 오늘날에는 그러한 인식 차이가 거의 없이 쓰이고 있다.

This study examines types of female address terms in Jeonnam dialect on geographical differentiation and social-cultural factors about female address terms in Jeonnam dialect using suffix such as ‘-ddeock, -ne, -shil ’. The ourcome is following. Firstly, ‘-daeck~ -ddaeck~ -ddeock ’ type and ‘-ne’ type are general female address terms but ‘-shil’ type is limited female address terms that is used in Gipseongchon(the community that gathered with same family name people) of powerful social conscious. Secondly, both ‘geononymy’ of ‘-daeck~ -ddaeck~ -ddeock ’ type and female address terms of ‘-shil’ type are not used naturally and ‘teknonymy’ of ‘-ne’ type, especially ‘jamyoung+-ne’ type is preferred regardless of Gipseongchon or non-Gipseongchon in the region of Southwest Coast Islands. Thirdly, the distribution of female address terms of ‘-shil’ type is restricted and the terms are also judged to disappear for lowering its frequency in use. The case of calling married women with these terms is rare in recent days. Fourthly, address terms of ‘-daeck~ -ddaeck~ -ddeock ’ do not have traditional meaning any more in these day, it is changed to indicate only house like ‘in the house of the principal’ so that the function as female address terms is reducing. Finally, female address terms of ‘-ne’ type is using frequently these days so its productivity is inferred high. In former times, there were differences of understanding in regions with difference social-cultural background when using ‘-ne’ type undoubtedly but today is almost not different.
