Modern Japanese radio exercises and the politics of “the body”

A purpose of this study is to clarify the historic development and function of radio exercises. Because the transformation of the outlook on modern body, a change of social working structure overlapped, as for the radio exercises, a massmedia event to follow appearance and rapid spread of new media called the radio, it was formed. The radio exercises were started as exercise for the modernization of the consciousness and rationalization of the body itself as exercise of the making of health for conquest of the inferiority complex for American and European countries in Japanese time and seeped to the every corner of the life of the people. I felt an each person's body as a body of “the nations” by the radio exercises operated the body of flat people nationwide, and operating it and collectivized as a thought, the thing which acted and functioned as a device to make rules afterwards. The radio exercises call out many nations and cannot deny the side that I took a militaristic part on.
