Observance of the "orthographic rules" among other areas of Korean grammar is an important indicator that not only allowsone to communicate smoothly while preventing confusions rising in written- linguistic life, but also suggests that he/she has basic attainments in Korean. Since frequent cases of errors in orthography occur among elementary school students’ writings despite the importance of the orthography, this study has been carried out with respect to the phenomena of orthographic errors. Not classifying the errors on the basis of the common phenomena revealed overtly as in cases with combination of "nominals and particles" and with "stems and endings," this study tries to interpret the phenomena paying attention to the causes of the orthographic errors. During the course of the study, conjecturing that the "phenomena of orthographic error"would be affected by spoken language given the temporal characteristics of elementary school students, I have interpreted the orthographic errors from the phonological perspective. By finding orthographic errors from the actual writings by elementary school students and analyzing the causes of the errors, this study aims to explore an effective plan for teaching them. Hopefully, an effective education of the orthography will be achieved on the basis of the actual data and discussion observed from this study.
