A Study on the Relationship between Work Ethics Perceptions and Outcome Variables in Korean Students

Employes generally experience confusion in work ethics from layoff and short time employment. The efforts to increase work ethics toward sound growth in business are inevitable. Max Weber argued that Protestant work ethics(PWE) played an important role in the development of capitalism in the West. Weber's thesis stimulated various research about the relationship between religion and economic attitudes. Theoretical developments in PWE thesis of Weber were reviewed and methodological issues were also discussed. The purpose of this paper is to investigate the relationship between Protestant Work Ethics(PWE) perceptions and outcome variables held by korean students. PWE were measured using Mirels & Garrett(1971) scale. Data was gathered through direct survey to students of Korea Aviation Polytechnic College in Sachon City. The empirical results are following. First, job satisfaction was not related with PWE. Second, life satisfaction was negatively related with anti-leisures significantly. Third, hard work was positively related with internalization and identification. Asceticism was negatively related with internalization. Anti-leisures was negatively related with compliance. Concludingly, characteristics, justice and demographic variables besides PWE affected outcome variables significantly. Implications of this results were discussed with existing studies and korean situations.
