On the directions of revising the English national curriculum

The purpose of this paper is to suggest the characteristics and objectives, the lexicon, the limit of vocabulary and sentence lengths, the achievement standards, and teaching-learning methods in the English National Curriculum. In order to achieve this purpose, the theoretical grounds for English education are reviewed, and the 2007 English National Curriculum is analysed. It was argued that the characteristics and objectives, the lexicon, the limit of vocabulary and sentence lengths, the achievement standards, and teaching-learning methods need to be revised considering the implementation of the curriculum. Furthermore, it was analysed that the components of the 2007 National Curriculum Revised are necessary but not sufficient for the overall education in primary and secondary schools. Thus, in this paper, the directions of revising the English national curriculum are suggested.
