수도 한양의 조선적 국도숲 이해

Study on Understanding Urban Forest in Hanyang, a Capital of the Joseon Period

본 논문은 전통숲의 용어 사용에 대한 기존의 연구를 비판적으로 검토하여 전통숲을 도시숲·마을숲·기타숲이란 3개의 유형으로 분류하였다. 그리고 도시숲을 국도숲·읍치숲 2개의 유형으로, 마을숲을 양반마을숲·평민마을숲 2개의 유형으로 세분하였다. 다음으로 조선의 수도인 한양의 국도숲이 갖고 있는 특징을 세계사적 보편성과 조선적 특수성의 결합형태라는 관점에서 살펴보았다. 세계사적 측면에서 한양의 국도숲이 갖고 있는 구체적 특징은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 산을 매개로 하여 하늘과 연결된 왕의 권위를 표현하기 위해 왕궁·종묘 등 도시의 최고 권위 공간까지 숲으로 보호된 산줄기가 깊숙이 들어와 있었다. 둘째, 하늘=산=권위 건물이란 3단계적 상징 경관이 밖에서는 보이지 않게 하기 위해 도시 전체를 숲으로 보호된 산줄기로 둘러쌓았다. 셋째, 자연적인 산줄기로는 도시를 완벽하게 둘러싸지 못하는 문제점을 보완하기 위해 인공숲을 조성하였다. 넷째, 숲으로 보호된 산줄기가 도시 내부와 주변에 풍부한 장점을 이용하여 인공적인 정원숲보다는 자연을 적극 활용한 정원숲이 대다수였다.

The detailed characteristics of the urban forest of Hanyang, a capital of the Joseon period, in terms of the world history are as follows: Fist, the mountain ridge protected by forest was placed deep into the most authoritative space of the city for representing the authority of kings connected to the sky through the medium of mountain. Second, the whole city was surrounded by the mountain ridge protected by forest for the 'three-factors symbol landscape, that is, the sky is equal with mountain, which is also equal with authority building' not to be seen from the outside. Third, the artificial forest was formed in order to complement a problem that the city was not surrounded completely by the natural mountain ridge. Fourth, mostly there were more garden forests that actively used nature rather than artificial garden forests, and the first type of garden forest was formed by using a merit that the mountain ridge protected by forest was abundant inside and surrounding of the city.
