In Chosun Dynasty, women were looking away beautiful appearance but the female virtues were emphasized. Sometimes a women's makeup was regarded one of the female virtues. They also care about their makeup. On the contrary, they departmentalized the fundamental notions of makeup. The makeup of the middle class is significantly different from the privileged class someone like a courtesan and a court lady. This makes for men to think of the different view of womanhood. Men like to meet a courtesan or concubine, who has a white skin like a precious stone, thin and the possibility butterfly it sat on eyebrow, a peach color cheek, lips as read as a cherry, a nice hair and a well-proportioned figure with a slim waist. But men want to take a wife or daughter-in-law who has a healthy body, a good personality and a sincerer woman. So the courtesan and concubine like a color tone makeup and other women want to keep trying a clean and white skin in Chosun Dynasty. Before 1876, a make-up culture was developed by courtesans. Now days, we call them a fashion leader. In addition, the mass media begins to pay great attention to their culture again. This research is to find out the courtesan culture and make-up.
