These experiments were conducted to investigate the biological characteristics of Amblyseius fallacis (Garman) as a predator of tea red spider mite, Tetrarzychus kanzawai Kishida. At four constant temperatures of 17, 20, 25, and 30˚C, the developmental periods from egg to adult emergence of A. fallacis were 21.3. 12.9. 7.5 and 4.8 days, respectively. Developmental threshold temperature and total effective temperature from egg to adult emergence were 13.6˚C and 80.1 degree-days, respectively. Preoviposition periods of A. fallacis were shorter than oviposition and postoviposition periods. The numbers of eggs laid per female were 30.8, 34.5. 43.5 and 42.1 at the each temperature. The intrinsic rates of increase were estimated to be 0.075, 0.114. 0.224 and 0.309 ; the mean generation times were 40.6, 27.1, 15.4 and 10.8 days ; and the population doubling times were 9.2, 6.1, 3.1, and 2.2 days at 17, 20, 25 and 30˚C, respectively. A. fallacis gravid female consumed 8.6, 8.9, 12.9 and 18.1 eggs of T. kanzawai per day at the each temperature.
