This paper examines the types and characteristics of korean tea ceremony. The scope of this research is the whole korean tea ceremony from the Three Kingdom dynasty to the Joseon dynasty. Ⅰ. The Silla dynasty The types of tea ceremony of the Silla dynasty are those of buddhism and the characteristics of this dynasty appeared the they used the unique style tea instruments. Ⅱ. The Koryo dynasty The types of tea ceremony devide into three parts which are those of the royal court, Buddhism and reception of guests the characteristics appeared the performance of tea ceremony and soup festival which, in part, were influenced from Buddhism and Confucianism. Ⅲ. The Joseon dynasty The types and characteristics of this dynasty were tea ceremony of the royal court, Buddhism, Confucianism, Taoism and reception of guests. Through this research, we find that various cultures of the tea ceremony are traditional and spirutual aspects and expect reorganization and realistic, systimatical research of this thesis with priority given to literatures.
