The Laser Peening Effect for Residual Stress Improvement on the Metal Surface

The effect of residual stress improvement on Ni-base Alloy 600 laser surface shock peening by a second harmonic Nd:YAG laser beam were investigated with a hole drill equipment. High pressure plasma with high density laser pulses can make plastic deformation on material surface, it means to change the characteristic of metal face with compressed residual stress. Compresses residual stress on specimen surface improved the metal fatigue and stress corrosion cracking. This is the useful method for residual stress improvement of all material surface in aero and nuclear plant components.
