The Alliance Model of the Family and Its Empirical Test : Women’s Economic Status and the Risk of Spousal Aggression

이 연구는 가족동맹 모델과 배우자 공격성의 비판적 교환 이론으로부터 파생되는 몇몇 가설들을 검증하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 구체적으로, 한국복지패널조사 1차년도 자료를 이용하여 남편 대비 아내의 상대 소득과 배우자폭력의 위험도 사이의 관계가 조사되었다. 분석 결과, 아내의 상대 소득과 아내폭력의 위험도 사이에는 M자 관계가 나타났다. 이 결과는 남편들이 아내의 경제적 지위에 대해 양가감정을 갖고 있다는 것을 보여주었다. 그러나 아내의 상대 소득과 남편폭력의 위험도 사이의 관계는 통계적으로 유의미하지 않았다.

The purpose of this study is to empirically test some hypotheses derived from the alliance model of the family and critical exchange theory of spousal aggression. Specifically, the relationships between wives’ level of income relative to that of their husbands and the risks of spousal aggression were examined, using the first wave of Korea Welfare Panel Study having been conducted in 2006 by the Korea Institute for Health and Social Affairs. The results of the analyses showed that the relationships between wives’ relative level of income and the risks of husband-to-wife violence were likely to be M-shaped. These results suggested that husbands might have ambivalence about their wives’ economic status, supporting main predictions from two theories. The relationships between wives’ relative level of income and the risks of wife-to-husband violence, however, were not significant.
