A Study on the Development of Freight Forwarder by the Change of International Logistics Environment

This study assumed that factors causing changes in international logistics environment are globalization, M&A of international logistics companies, the influence of informatization on the logistics industry, the development of third‐party logistics, etc., and classified problems in multimodal transport forwarding business (Freight Forwarder) into internal, external and institutional problems. To solve these problems in multimodal transport forwarding business and to gain competitive advantage in changing international logistics environment, this study made suggestions as follows. First, smallness in size should be overcome by raising general logistics companies according to the diversification strategy, activating M&A and strategic alliance among small and medium enterprises. Second, competitive advantage should be gained by providing special cargo services to specific areas in niche markets and by reinforcing network through strategic cooperation and expansion of service areas. Lastly, institutional and political supports should be provided including construction of logistics standardization, extension of the logistics infrastructure, educating and training of expert personnel, and supporting political funds.
