For this purpose, this paper refers to the analyses of Swales(1990), Williams(2004), Harklau(1994) and tries to differentiate discourse structures, discourse markers and verbs, descriptions of conclusions of papers written by Korean native speakers and foreign Korean learners respectively. This paper finds that Korean language learners' papers reveal low proficiency in areas such as discourse structures, usage of effective discourse markers, conclusion deduction, which suggests necessity of essay writing instruction for academic purposes. This paper contribute to design of contrasitive rhetoric research and evaluation of Korean learners in the future by exploring the differences in stylistic patterns appeared in different cultures.
