The Survey of Early Education and Educational Expenses for Preschool Children

The purpose of this research was to investigate mothers' perception of the early education and educational expenses for preschool children. Subjects of this study consisted of 230 mothers with 3 to 6-year-old preschoolers drawn from 8 kindergartens and 3 private English institutions in the Chungcheong area. Data were analyzed with descriptive analysis by using SPSS 12.0 and SAS V 9.1 programs. The results showed that mothers are satisfied with the effect of early education but feel uncomfortable with the educational expenses for preschoolers. They also think education very important in their children's career and future lives. It was also found that educational expenses were diverse across different types of education and different areas of curricula. Especially, mothers spent the greatest amount of money on private educational institutes, home-visit tutoring, and Korean and English curricula.
