Media and Social Responsibility From Social Work Perspective

This paper attempts to explorer the function of media on the society. Generally, media functions are divided into three that are to inform, to educate, and to entertain. Furthermore, in the social work activities, many peoples trying used media as a tool to communicate with the others peoples from many places. Media in Malaysia today are more focusing on current and responsible issues in line with its prime objective to disseminate information to the public, especially with the new 9th Malaysian Plan in line. More media are opened up and given more space than before in putting their ideas and thoughts. Many sensitive and human right issues have been discussed on media. Also, the government should be ready and willing to receive criticism and comments from the populace positively and improve on any weaknesses in ensuring that all interested parties in this country be involve in the development and realization of a knowledgeable community based on virtuous values. All these steps are for protecting the interests of all residents in a country, especially a harmoniously multi-racial country like Malaysia.
