선택적 H₁길항제로 알레르기 결막염 치료제인 레보카바스틴 점안액 (0.5㎎/㎖)의 치료효과와 안전성을 실제 약물의 사용 상황에서 조사하였다. 총 340명의 대상 환자 중 96%가 알레르기 결막염으로 진단되었다. 시판 후 조사이므로 환자의 선정 및 진단방법, 약물 투여기간, 병용액 사용유무에 대한 제한은 없었다. 임상증상(눈가려움증, 충혈, 유루, 결막부종)을 4등급으로 나누어 평가한 결과, 평균 증상점수의 합은 투여전 6.67(N=340)에서 투여 1주 후 3.28(N=252), 2주 후 2.39(N=197)로 매우 감소하였다. 임상의사에 의해 평가된 전반적인 증상의 치료효과는 `매우 유효` 17.1%, `유효` 63.5%, `약간 유효` 17.9%, `무효` 1.5%이었다. 부작용은 35명(10.3%)의 환자에서 보고되었으며, 따가움, 작열감, 자극감 등 모두 적용부위의 자극증상이었다. 특히 14세 이하의 소아 및 65세 이상의 노인층에서늬 부작용 발현율이 각각 7.0%, 9.5%로 낮았으며, 고혈압, 신장애 및 간장애가 있는 환자에서도 특별한 부작용이 관찰되지 않았다. 임상의사에 의해 치료효과와 안전성을 종합하여 판정된 유용도는 `매우 유용` 17.1%, `유용` 63.8%, `약간 유용` 17.1%, `유용하지 않음` 1.8%fh 80.9%의 환자에서 `유용` 이상으로 평가되었다. 이상과 같이 레보카바스틴 점안액은 일상적인 투여 상황에서 알레르기 결막염 및 기타 만성결막염 등 이와 유사한 안질환의 치료에 유효하고 안전하였으며, 소아 및 노인 환자에게도 안전하게 사용할 수 있는 것으로 사료되었다(한안지 39:2549~2557, 1998).
A multicenter post-marketing surveillance study has been conducted to evaluate the efficacy and safety of levocabastine eye drops(0.5㎎/㎖). Total 340 patients suffering from allergic conjunctivitis(96%) or other similar ophthalmic disorders were participated. Clinical symptoms (itching, hyperemia, tearing and chemosis) were assessed according to a four point scale before treatment and at every visit. Total symptom severity score before therapy, 6.67(N=340), was remarkably decreased to 3.28(N=252) at 1 week, and to 2.39(N=197) at 2 weeks. The physicians rated the application as `very effective` 17.1%, `effective` 63.5%, `slightly effective` 17.9%, and `not effective` 1.5% of patients. Adverse reactions(10.3%) were limited to ocular irritation like stinging and burning sensation. These events were even lower in children (age≤14 yrs) and elderly(age≥65 yrs) showing 7.0% and 9.5% respectively. Patients with hepatic, renal impairment and hypertension did not experience any special adverse effects. The overall assessment by physicians showed that the application in 80.9% of the patients was evaluated above `useful` (i.e, `very useful` ; 17.1%, `useful` ; 63.8%, `slightly useful` ; 17.1%). Therefore, it was concluded that levocabastine eye drops is a safe and effective treatment for allergic conjunctivitis and other similar ophthalmic disorders(J Korean Ophthalmol Soc 39:2549~2557, 1998).
