1989년 5월 1일부터 12월 31일까지 본원에서 안외상으로 백내장이 각막열상과 동반되어 수정체 적출술을 받았던 환자와 각막열상만을 입었던 환자에 생긴 불규칙한 각막난시, 5디옵터 이하의 각막난시, 콘택트렌즈에 의해 생긴 고도 근시안의 각막난시 및 원추각막 등으로 안경이나 기존의 콘택트렌즈에 의한 시력교정에 실패한 환자 8명(13안)에 대해 산소투과성 경성 콘택트렌즈인 UniCon(R) 렌즈를 착용시킨 결과 전 예에서 교정시력의 개선을 보였다. 원추각막의 경우 경도의 각막상피 미란을 보인 것을 제외하고는 뚜렷한 부작용을 볼 수 없었으며 착용감의 경우 대부분의 환자에서 만족스러웠기에 보고하는 바이다.
From May 1, 1989 to December 31, 1989, we evaluated the use of the gas permeable hard contact lens, UniCon(R) lens, for 13 eyes of 8 patients with various corneal astigmatisms, such as irregular corneal astigmatism combined with or without aphakia, corneal astigmatism less than 5 diopters, lens induced astigmatism in high myopia and keratoconus, for whom spectacles or conventional contact lens strategies failed. Corrected vision with the UniCon(R) lens was superior to thar with previously used spectacles or contact lenses. Except for one ete with an advanced form of keratoconus which showed a mild degree of corneal erosion, no remarkable complications were noted in any patients and most of the patients felt comfortable. This study suggests that the UniCon(R) lens is clincally available for various corneal astigmatisms.
