The Effects of ERP System Implementation on Firms' Financial Performance

본 연구는 전사적 자원관리(ERP) 시스템을 도입한 기업을 대상으로 ERP 시스템 도입의 재무효과를 분석하였다. 이를 위하여 본 연구에서는 재무비율을 사용하여 ERP 시스템 도입기업과 미도입기업간의 재무성과에 차이가 있는지 여부를 분석하였다. 기업의 재무특성은 11개 재무비율로 구성된다. 또한, 본 연구에서는 기업규모별, 업종별 및 ERP 제품별로 ERP 시스템 도입기업과 미도입기업의 재무성과에서 차이가 있는지를 분석하였다. 1999년부터 2002년까지 4년 동안 89개 ERP 시스템 도입기업과 89개 미도입 기업의 712개 관찰치를 분석대상으로 하여, 두 집단간의 재무비율에 대한 t-test를 수행하였다. 실증분석 결과는 기업의 수익성, 활동성 및 성장성에 있어 ERP 시스템의 도입기업과 미도입기업간에 재무성과는 통계적으로 유의한 차이를 보여주지 못하고 있으나, 활동성관련 일부 재무비율은 통계적으로 유의한 차이를 보여주고 있다. 또한, 기업규모별, 업종별 및 ERP 제품별로도 유사한 분석결과를 제시하고 있으나, 활동성, 성장성 및 생산성관련 일부 재무비율의 경우 ERP 시스템 도입기업과 미도입기업간에 유의한 차이를 보여주고 있다.

This study investigates the impact of Enterprise Resource Planning(ERP) system implementation on firms' financial performance. This research tries to test the comparison between ERP adopted and not-adopted firms through a matched sample comparison methodology and publicly available financial ratios. The firm's financial performance is composed of 11 financial ratios. This study also conducted tests according to the firm size, business category and the ERP product. A total of 712 observations were obtained from 178 firms, 89 implemented firms and 89 control firms, for the period of 1999-2002. The difference analysis of the financial ratios between two groups was executed through t-test. The results of test indicate that firms with and without ERP system do not show any statistically significant difference in financial performance over 4 years of time span between ERP adopted and not-adopted firms, instead a few financial ratios show significantly result in activity financial ratios. Also, test results of the firm size, business category and the ERP product were not different, instead a few financial ratios show significantly result in the activity, growth and productivity financial ratios.
