Analysis of the Correlation among Narcissism, Interest in Appearance and Beauty-Related Behavior

The purpose of this study was to examine the narcissistic disposition, appearance interest and beauty-related behavior of women in their 20s to 40s, the correlation among the factors and their mutual influence. The findings of the study were as follows: First, the self-directed narcissism and others-conscious narcissism were significantly correlated to all the components of appearance interest that involved looks keeping-up, weight consciousness and concern for physical attraction. The others-oversensitive narcissism had a significant correlation to looks keeping-up and weight consciousness. Second, the self-directed narcissism had a significant correlation to every factor, and the others-conscious narcissism was significantly correlated to fashion orientation, cosmetic surgery and makeup behavior. The others-oversensitive narcissism had a significant correlation with every element of the beauty-related behavior. Third, the looks keeping-up and weight consciousness were significantly correlated to every component of the beauty-related behavior. The concern for physical attraction had a significant correlation to fashion orientation, cosmetic surgery, makeup behavior and hairdo behavior, and there wasn't a large disparity among the factors in the level of significance.
