This study explores various English immersion programs recently conducted in elementary schools either with the support from local governmental offices of education or by enthusiastic teachers. It also investigates the critical issues of English immersion education from the voices if the seven elementary teachers who have recently participated in immersion programs. Through the analysis of the models and the teacher's voices, the following results were found. First, Various types of immersion programs showed advantages and benefits of immersion regardless of the support from the local government education offices. Second, the models of immersion illustrated practical approaches to develop immersion programs in diverse ways through the teachers' immersion study groups, the designation of immersion schools, or individual teachers who are interested in immersion. Lastly, interviews with the teachers showed that there were not only some difficulties and problems to be solved for immersion, but also plenty of possibilities for and benefits from the introduction of the program. Based on these findings several suggestions were made to implement English immersion programs in public elementary schools in Korea.
