靑銅器時代石器製作의 兩極技法硏究

The research of bi–polar technique of the Bronze Age's stone tools manufacture – Focused on manufacturing experiment –

본고는 청동기시대의 유적에서 출토된 마제석기 미완성품의 제작기법에 관한 연구이다. 먼저 각 유적에서 출토된 미완성석기를 검토하고 제작실험을 실시한 결과 마제석기의 제작에는 兩極技法이라는 중요한 기술이 내재되어 있음을 확인할 수 있었다. 양극기법은 대석에 가공물을 놓고 망치돌을 수직으로 가격하여 박리를 유도하는 기법인데, 크게 兩極分割, 兩極打擊, 兩極敲打로 구분할 수 있다. 양극기법의 발생은 구석기시대로 추정되지만 석인기법 위주로 발전한 구석기시대에는 크게 활용되지 않은 것으로 보인다. 신석기시대의 경우에는 조기와 전기에는 어망추, 석부 등에서 일부 확인되다가 전기~후기로 갈수록 보습, 굴지구 등으로 확대되는 양상이다. 청동기시대로 접어들면서 본격적으로 양극기법이 활용되는데 조기와 전기전반에는 중대형 유물인 마제석검, 석도, 석부류 등에서 주로 확인되며 전기후반~후기에는 소형석기인 석촉까지 확대된다. 이러한 양극기법의 활용은 사회적인 요구를 반영하여 점차 증가하는 것으로 추정되는데 이를 통해 마제석기의 효율적인 생산을 가능하게 하였으며, 이는 생산성의 향상으로 이어져 사회발전 속도를 가속화 시켰을 것으로 추정된다.

This research is about manufacturing techniques of incomplete grinding stone tools which were excavated in the sites of the Bronze Age. Firstly, examine unfinished stone tools from each site and make an experiment on producing each of them. These experiments indicated that there were important skills while producing grinding stone implements : bi– polar technique. Bi– polar technique is a technique which put a processing stone on the anvil and hit it straight down with a hammer– stone to induce exfoliation. This technique can be divided into two different methods : Bi– polar hit, which produces flakes, and bi– polar technique was originated from the Palaeolithic period, however, during that time, blade– technique was mostly used rather than bi– polar technique. In Early Neolithic Period, through fishing net– sinkers and stone– axes, bi– polar technique was identified and when it gets to the late Neolithic Period, this technique expanded to plow shares, shovels and digging tools. The application of this bi– polar technique enabled to produce polished stone tools effectively, and this led to the increase of productivity that speed up social development.
