Establishment of Geomdan-ri Culture

무문토기시대 중기의 울산지역에는 단독문양으로서의 孔例文·短斜線文·橫線文土器, 그리고 把手附深鉢形土器와 赤色磨硏壅形土器 등을 특징으로 하는 樣式化 된 土器郡, 이른바 ‘檢丹里式土器’가 유행했다. 여기에 석창·동북형석도·단면 타원형 혹은 방형의 토제어망추와 울산형주거지·방형의 소형석관묙와 같은 지역적 특징이 결합되는 고고학적 문화를 ‘檢丹里類型’으로 설정할 수 있다. 이러한 양상이 본격적으로 나타나는 검단리 Ⅰ기는 이전의 흔암리식토기, 즉 前期의 문화에서는 이미 벗어났다. 따라서 검단리유적 편년의 영향으로 인해 전기말~중기전반이라는 과도기적 시기로 편년된 울산지역 유적들은 중기후반까지를 하한으로 고려해야 것이다. 호서·호남·서부경남·대구지역에 송국리유형문화가 확산될 때 울산지역은 검단리유형이라고 하는 지역문화가 안정적으로 유지되었다. 이와 같은 지역문화는 무문토기시대 중기-검단리단계-에 울산~경주~포항일대를 중심으로 형성되고 있어 시기적·지역적 한정성이 강하며, 그러한 배경에는 동북지역과의 교류관계도 내포되어 있었다.

Geomdan-ri Type Pottery that drew Single design is clearly different with Heunamri Type Pottery. Geomdan-ri Type Pottery are stylistic pottery fashioned on Ulsan region in Bronze age. Geomdan-ri Culture is assemblage of archaeological data Ulsan region. This is, What is called, country culture of middle period in Korea Bronze age. Range of Geomdan-ri Culture is limited to Ulsan~Gyeongju~Pohang area. That is to say, Geomdan-ri Culture is archaeological culture of limited area and restricted period. A part of Geomdan-ri Type Pottery is spreaded over Daegu region and interior of Gyeongbuk. In thinking background of Establishment of Geomdan-ri Culture, archaeological data of Northeast-area become a clue. This culture was roughly continued for 300 years until Culture of Pottery with Round Clay Stripes.
