The Formation and Transition of Chilpokuk(칠포국)

칠원지역의 고대국명은 柒浦國이었다. 칠원지역에 인간이 본격적으로 거주하기 시작한 것은 청동기시대이다. 이것은 청동기시대의 대표적인 유적인 지석묘가 광려천변의 널리 분포하고 있음을 통해 알 수 있다. 광려천이 남쪽에서 북쪽으로 흘러 낙동강에 유입되고 그 주변의 들판은 오래 전부터 사람들이 살기에 적합한 지역이었을 것이다. 지석묘의 분포는 정치권력의 출현 및 성립기반을 보여주는 것이며 이러한 청동기 사회의 모습이 변한시기 칠포국이 성장하는데 중요한 기반이 되었을 것이다. 칠포국의 형성시기는 정확히 알 수 없다. 하지만 浦上八國전쟁기사를 통해서 볼 때 3세기대에는 칠포국이 존재하고 있었으므로, 그 이전에 이미 칠포국은 성립되었을 것이다. 다만 인근의 骨浦國이나 창원 다호리지역을 중심으로 했던 정치집단의 형성과 밀접한 관련을 가지고 있었을 것으로 추정되므로 칠포국의 형성은 늦어도 기원후 2세기를 넘지는 않았을 것이다. 칠포국은 포상팔국 중의 하나였고, 두 차례의 전쟁에 모두 참여하고 있는 것으로 보아 포상팔국 중에서도 유력한 정치집단이었음에 틀림없다. 칠포국이 포상팔국전쟁에 참여했던 이유는 지속적 발전을 위한 기반이 되는 농경지 확보를 위한 내륙지역으로의 진출이 목적이었고, 신라의 가야지역으로의 진출을 막기 위한 것이었다. 하지만 포상팔국전쟁은 실패로 끝이났다. 이것이 칠포국이 멸망하게 되는 이유가 되었다.

The name of an ancient country in Chilwon was Chilpokuk. In the Bronze Age, people regularly began to reside in Chilwon. We can know this fact because the dolmens, which is the representative ruins in the Bronze Age, are widely distributed around Gwangryeo Stream. Gwangryeo Stream flows from south to north and into Nakdong River, therefore the plain in and around Gwangryeo Stream was the area suitable for habitation. The distribution of dolmens can show the appearance and formative foundation of political power, and the above situation in the Bronze Age might be an important foundation in Chilpokuk's development in the Pyounhan Age. The formative period of Chilpokuk cannot be exactly known. According to Posangphalkuk's war description, however, Chilpokuk already existed by the 3rd century, it thus appears that Chilpokuk had been established before that. Since it presumes that neighboring Golpokuk or the formation of political party, based in Dahori, Changwon, was closely related to Chilpokuk, the formation of Chilpokuk was by the 2nd century at latest. Chilpokuk was a part of Posangphalkuk, and, in consideration of two participations in the war, it must be a powerful political party in Posangphalkuk. The reasons why Chilpokuk participated in Posangphalkuk's war are as follows: first, the purpose of Chilpokuk was advancing toward inland area to secure farmland, which was foundation for steady growth: second, Chilpokuk wanted to ban Shila from advancing toward Gaya. Posangphalkuk's war ended with its defeat. It caused the destruction of Chilpokuk.
