In spite of a popularity of the phrase of `security engineering` shown in many books and articles, the definition and fundamental perspectives of the security engineering are rarely found. The security engineering is the application of scientific and mathematical principles to practical ends such as the design, manufacture, and operation of efficient and economical structures, machines, processes, and systems which minimize the risk of exposure of assets and resources or the profession of or the work performed by a security engineer. This paper provides fundamental perspectives of the security engineering based on problem solving theories and information engineering methodologies. The perspectives of the security engineering introduced in this paper could clarify the relationship between various researches on security engineering and suggest the right and constructive directions of future works of the security engineering.
