실외놀이에서 유아들이 겪는 수학적 경험에 관한 탐색

An exploration on young children’s mathematical experiences in outdoor play

본 연구의 목적은 실외놀이에서 유아들이 겪는 자연스럽고 일상적인 수학적 경험을 탐색해봄으로써 실외놀이를 통한 유아수학교육의 가능성을 제시해 보고자 하는 것이다. 연구대상은 서울시에 소재한 1개 공동육아 어린이집 만 4, 5세반 유아 13명과 담임교사 2명이었으며, 이들의 실외놀이를 20회에 걸쳐서 연구자 2인이 참여관찰하였다. 관찰된 내용을 유아들의 경험 및 일상생활의 맥락을 기준으로 분석하였더니, 유아들은 실외놀이 장소로 이동하면서, 규칙있는 다양한 게임을 통해서, 자연환경 탐색 과정 속에서, 지역사회 나들이 등을 통해서 다양한 수학적 경험을 하고 있었다. 즉, 유아들은 실외에서의 자연스럽고 일상적인 활동에서 매우 다양하고 광범위한 수학적 경험을 하고 있었으며, 예상하지 못했던 수학적 경험이 무한히 발생하였다. 또한, 실외놀이에서 나타나는 수학적 경험은 다양한 수학교육의 내용이 통합적으로 나타나며, 실외놀이에서 일어나는 수학적 경험의 현상은 구성원들간의 상호작용 속에서 그 의미와 내용이 이해되어져야 한다는 것을 알 수 있었다.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the possiblity of mathematical education for young children with the help of outdoor play by exploring casual mathematical experiences which happen everyday. The study went though 13 children, age 4-5, and 2 teachers at a cooperative child-care in seoul, Korea. 2 researchers were involved in this research and observed their outdoor play 20 times. We analyzed their experiences and everyday life based on logical sense, and found that they are exposed to various mathematical experiences through numerous plays; moving from indoor to outdoor, playing games with certain rules, going out picnic, going out local community and so on. In other words, the childrens undergo broad and diverse mathematical experiences while they play outside. Furthermore, we realized that the mathematical experiences from outdoor plays are integrated with diverse mathematical education and the experiences should be understood in harmony with each other’s interaction.
