This article studies on history, theory, and some points at issue of domain the domain of computer-aided composition. By the term computer music, we can identify two different domains such as computer domains such as computer-realized music and computer-generated composition, it is the composer who conceives and assumes all the compositional process, the musical result being realized by computer. In the computer-composed music, we an this time identify two sub-domains such as automatic composition by computer and computer-aided composition. In the domain of computer-aided composition, the computer can be active or passive assistant of the composer or simple calculator. This article surveys the theory and points at issue of the domain computer-aided composition: level of musical rules the computer should implement, question of execution, role of computer, relation between analysis and composition, two different compositional strategies such as deterministic algorithm and stochastic one, some technical strategies, and domains of computational compositional assistance. In the domain of the computer-aided composition, we take interest in the of organization of music, the communication, and the esthetical perception.
