원어민영어보조교사 활용 수업이 초등학생들의 영어의사소통 능력에 미치는 영향

The effects of co-teaching between English teachers and native assistant teachers on elementary students' English communicative ability.

The purpose of this study is to analyze the effectiveness of co-teaching between English teachers and their native assistant teachers in elementary school English classrooms. Elementary students' English communicative abilities were divided into their listening, speaking, reading and writing skills. To this end, ten schools were selected based on the regional types (metropolitan cities, small and medium size cities and rural areas) of schools located and co-teaching types these schools adopt. English test and survey were given to examine learner's achievement level, their background variables and their attitudes toward co-teaching. The results of English achievement test were analyzed by ANCOVA, and the survey on their background and co-teaching was analyzed by frequency. The findings showed that co-teaching had positive effects on most elementary students' English communicative abilities, even though there were a little difference depending schools', students' and teachers' variables. In addition, the co-teaching type of a special teacher and a native assistant teacher was more effective than that of a homeroom teacher and a native assistant English teacher.
